Code of conduct

Code of Conduct

AFOL.lu Community · Code of Conduct

Version 1.0 · effective May 2026

This Code of Conduct applies to the AFOL.lu platform and all related features (forum, gallery, calendar, marketplace, events, private messages). It is binding for all members, including the board of AFOL.lu a.s.b.l., the moderation team, and the Community Ambassador.

1. General principles

  • The first rule of AFOL.lu is: have fun.
  • We are all here with the best intentions – for our community and its members.
  • Treat other members with respect and the way you would like to be treated.
  • Assume that all posts are written in good faith and with positive intent.
  • Keep the AFOL.lu values in mind when posting, so that the environment stays friendly and non-offensive.
  • It can be difficult to read someone's tone or to tell whether a post is meant as a joke. When in doubt, ask – do not assume bad intent.
  • If you make a joke, mark it with a smiley or add „(just kidding)“ to avoid misunderstandings.
  • Stay on topic: AFOL.lu is about AFOLs, RLUGs/RLFCs, the LEGO® brand and LEGO® products in any form.
  • Topics outside these areas belong in the Community Café.
  • Spam and off-topic posts are not welcome.
  • Buying, selling, and advertising private deals outside the marketplace section are not allowed.
  • You are never required to disclose personal information about yourself or others – neither in the forum nor through the private messaging system.
  • Harassment of any kind – verbal, sexual, repeated unwanted contact, or via the private messaging system.
  • Discrimination or demeaning remarks based on gender, sexual orientation, origin, religion, age, disability, or physical features.
  • Bullying, intimidation, deliberate public shaming, or repeatedly undermining other members.
  • Hate speech, extremist content, or content glorifying violence.
  • Politics and political symbols, campaigns, or movements.
  • Religious references, including symbols, buildings, or persons.
  • Sex, nudity, drugs, or smoking.
  • Alcohol as a feature of models or content.
  • Swearing or obscenities.
  • Death, killing, blood, terrorism, horror, or torture.
  • First-person shooter video games.
  • Warfare or war vehicles in a modern or contemporary setting, as well as national war memorials.
  • Large or human-sized weapons or weapon replicas of any kind – including swords, knives, rifles, sci-fi or fantasy blasters.
  • Racism, bullying, or cruelty to animals in a realistic depiction.
  • Use the search function and check the relevant board to see whether your topic already exists before creating a new one.
  • If a matching topic already exists, the moderation team may move or merge your post.
  • Read your reply out loud once or read it twice before submitting – this helps avoid misunderstandings.
  • When quoting: do not quote the entire previous post; quote only the part you are referring to.
  • Do not upload images larger than 5 MB.
  • Do not publish preliminary, unreleased, or confidential images of LEGO® products.
  • When posting photos, make sure that any people shown have agreed to publication.
  • Do not use third-party images without crediting the source or obtaining permission from the rights holder.
  • Keep your profile up to date.
  • For the free forum membership a username and a valid email address are sufficient; you must confirm that you are at least 18 years old.
  • For membership in AFOL.lu a.s.b.l., first and last name, date of birth, and address are required. These data are accessible only to the board.
  • You may set a signature – keep it short, no animated graphics or banners. A short quote and up to five links to your own community or websites are fine. Advertising and affiliate links are not allowed.
  • Instead of replying publicly to an inappropriate post, please use the report function attached to the post.
  • A report does not automatically mean that someone will be excluded – it is a signal to the AFOL.lu team, which decides on next steps.
  • Please add a short reason for your report.
  • All reports are kept confidential: the AFOL.lu team knows the reporter's name but does not share it.
  • For particularly sensitive matters you can also write directly to conduct@afol.lu – this address is handled confidentially by the board.

2. Inclusion, respect, no place for harassment or discrimination

AFOL.lu is open to all adult LEGO® fans regardless of origin, skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, physical features, or social background.

The following is explicitly not tolerated anywhere in the community:

  • Harassment of any kind – verbal, sexual, repeated unwanted contact, or via the private messaging system.
  • Discrimination or demeaning remarks based on gender, sexual orientation, origin, religion, age, disability, or physical features.
  • Bullying, intimidation, deliberate public shaming, or repeatedly undermining other members.
  • Hate speech, extremist content, or content glorifying violence.

3. LEGO® brand values

In line with the LEGO® brand values, the following content is not appropriate on the platform or at AFOL.lu events:

Note: At local meetups (Stammtisch) or private gatherings, normal social conventions apply (e.g. a beer on the table is fine). The points above refer to publicly posted content, MOCs, and publications.

4. Creating and replying to topics

5. Images and content

6. Profile settings

7. Application to the board, moderation, and Community Ambassador

These rules apply without exception to everyone on the AFOL.lu platform – including members of the board of AFOL.lu a.s.b.l., the moderation team, and the Community Ambassador. If a complaint concerns a member of the leadership team, that person does not decide the case themselves; it will be handled by at least two other, non-involved board members.

8. Reporting violations

9. Possible measures in case of violations

The AFOL.lu team handles every report on a case-by-case basis and chooses an appropriate response. As a general rule, the following stages apply:

  1. Personal note – for minor or first-time violations, usually via private message.
  2. Public warning – for repeated or more serious violations, recorded in the internal moderation log.
  3. Temporary suspension – e.g. 7 or 30 days, for significant or repeated violations.
  4. Removal from the community – for severe violations (e.g. harassment, discrimination, deliberate harm to the community) or when previous measures had no effect.

Severe violations may lead directly to removal without prior stages. Affected persons have the right to submit a written statement before a final decision is made.

10. Updates to this Code

This Code of Conduct is reviewed by the board of AFOL.lu a.s.b.l. at least once a year and updated as needed to reflect new experiences, platform changes, or the current LEGO® Fan CoLab requirements. Significant changes will be announced to members.
